Common Troubleshooting Steps

1. Experiencing a blank pop-up? Here is why (and how to fix it)

Here is exactly why this happens and how you can easily fix it.

The root cause comes down to how iOS and Apple HealthKit handle your privacy:

  • Invisible Read Permissions: The app cannot programmatically check if you have denied a read permission. If a permission is disabled, the HealthKit API doesn’t tell the app “Access Denied.” Instead, it simply returns a completely empty data set. It pretends there are no samples in the database to protect your privacy choices.
  • The One-Time Native Pop-up: The native iOS HealthKit permission screen only appears exactly once. The moment you respond to that initial pop-up (whether you press “Turn On All” or deny everything), the system flags the request as complete (.unnecessary). If the app’s code tries to request authorization again later, iOS silently ignores it and refuses to show the prompt again.

Because iOS is blocking the native prompt from reappearing, the app hangs or shows a blank view when trying to ask for permissions you might have missed or accidentally turned off.

How to Fix It Right Now

If you are missing data or getting this blank screen, the only way to re-enable the permissions is to manually guide iOS to allow it.

You can do this through either of these two paths on your iPhone:

  • Option A: Settings > Privacy & Security > Health > SportVitals
  • Option B: Open the Apple Health App > Profile (top right corner) > Apps and Services > SportVitals

Once there, just make sure all the toggles are turned ON.

2. App metrics are blank or not updating

SportVitals requires Apple Health permissions to read your heart rate, sleep, and workout data.

  • Solution: Open the Settings app on your iPhone. Navigate to Privacy & Security > Health > SportVitals. Make sure all permissions (especially Heart Rate, HRV, Sleep, and Workouts) are set to Allow.
  • Watch Wear: To get accurate nightly HRV and Sleep Scores, you must wear your Apple Watch to sleep.

2. iPhone app is not syncing with Apple Watch

All calculations are performed primarily on the Apple Watch and synced to the iPhone.

  • Solution: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on both devices and that your watch is connected to your iPhone. Open the SportVitals app on both your watch and your phone at the same time to force a local synchronization.

3. Calculations seem inaccurate

SportVitals calculates metrics like HRV baseline and Training Load over time.

  • Baseline Window: HRV baseline status requires at least 21 days of overnight HRV measurements. The metrics will show a “baseline building” status and become fully balanced/unbalanced after this initial training history is established.
  • Recomputing: If you notice an issue, you can trigger a full database recalculation or clear settings from the app’s Settings tab.
